So it's global PR blog week

Firstly, isn't the word global made redundant by the word blog? I digress, what I wanted to say, was that the most interesting thing I've read on the topic of blogging relative to PR was not from the site itself, but rather from Todd at A Penny For... In commenting on the lead-up to the event, he said:

I realize that when you pull together a big project like this that you need to have communication. There was so much communication that I stopped listening. I just wanted to participate.

So much communication, I stopped listening...wow. If blogging as an effective medium for PR is threatened by anything at all, it's its own addictive qualities, we all want to say so much, thus end up writing the same old hackneyed stuff. There is simply too much communication. The global PR week seemed like a good idea at first, but having looked at the posts, I'm not so sure. There is a lot of pontification, but it's mostly the same old, same old.

Not quite the thought revolution I was hoping for...!

Interesting thought... I don't know if I've seen too many "meme's" that weren't recognisable as such really quickly.

Maybe I just don't read enough "deep thought" type blogs, so I don't notice too many authors simply saying the same old things. But then, I'm a programmer, so I tend to be looking at "look at this cool tech" or "here's a simple explanation of deep development concept X/Y/Z"... So its kinda easier to sift through the repeats (if they happen)... And most of the personal blogs I read are from people with widely differing perspectives on life.

Um... so what was my point again? Oh right... its an interesting phenomenon(sp?) - how some uses of the technology work and others just flop.

Aint it just...!

Posted by: Rich...! | 16 Jul 2004 17:48:29

todd did finally participate. you should have too. the more ideas the better.

the din that todd, and most others, experienced was to be expected. 30 "strangers" from around the world were organizing a first of its kind event via email.
