What a sad day
Leigh Matthews, the 21 year old who was kidnapped almost two weeks ago, was found dead in the south of Joburg.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. May those fuckers rot in hell.

Yes. It is sad. It is tragic.
There has been (and, presumably, still will be) huge media interest in this case that “touched the hearts of millions of South Africans”, a website was established, a 24 hour hotline set up, even businesses got involved sponsoring billboards and the like...
BUT...
Tell me, what about the hundreds of children (and I mean young, innocent, vulnerable children) that go missing every year? Who cares about them? Where is the media interest? Where is the uproar? Where is the all out, all resources employed manhunt for their abductors, their abusers, their murderers???
...doesn’t seem quite right does it?

Absolutely. I think the story really hit hard because it was the day before her 21st birthday, which is a biggie for everyone, and her parents were able to get into the media circle and let it be known.
But you're right. The friends and families of less fortunate people can't get the publicity that they need to help the victims, which really sucks, because no matter how rich or poor, every victim needs all the help they can get.

...or maybe the crux is that it is just another example of...
"All people are equal, but some are more equal than others!"

Beautifully said.

My heart sank when I heard "a tragic end to the Leigh Matthews kidnapping" on the news headlines last night. It's awful. But Sam's also right - there are many, many others who don't get the media attention, and might be found (sooner or at all) if they did.
