I belong to about 8 social networks and I cannot help but think that if Google comes up with something, it might stick around way better and break the curve.

Tragedy strikes the land of the free

Captain America first appeared in 1941, just as the United States entered World War II. He was a symbol of American strength and resolve in fighting the Axis powers, and later Communism.

As originally conceived by creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Rogers was a man born before the Great Depression in a very different America. He disappeared after the war and reappeared only recently in the Marvel timeline. For a superhero many thought perfect, it was perhaps a fatal flaw for "Cap," as he became known.

"He hasn't been living in the modern world and the world does move," says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Queseda.

Queseda said he wanted to readers find their own meaning in Cap's end.

No, it's not another pair of geeky 3D glasses - well, actually it kind of is, but these ones actually work. They're not 3D either, but don't worry. You won't notice. These claim to replicate the effect of a 50-inch cinema screen - inside your own head. iTheatre.

The glasses work with most video sources - iPod, DVD, PSP, laptop etc - and have two twin TFT LCD monitors to give you all the fun of the cinema, wherever you are in the world. They won't even give you eyestrain, either: the dual screens make your eyes focus at a respectable 2.5m. They're ± R 2,114 and currently only available to pre-order. Damn.

Not to be confused with the Media Centre software iTheatre for Mac.
